There’s no doubt that the basketball world is still mourning the tragic loss of legendary star Kobe Byrant, his daughter Gigi and the 7 other victims who sadly lost their lives at the end of January 2020. May 15th saw Byrant inducted into the basketball Hall of Fame and it seems that there’s another opportunity on the horizon to celebrate the career of the lifetime Laker. It’s also expected that MJ will have some jokes up his sleeve to lighten the mood as he prepares to welcome the 5-times champion into the class.
As we take a close look at the Nike Kobe 6 Protro, it appears that the sport giants’ planned a tribute for the father and daughter duo in the form of an exclusive colourway dubbed “Mamba Forever”. Rather than opting for the classic gold/purple Laker’s hue, this iteration of the shoe makes use of black, white and gold instead in order to reflect the colours of Kobe’s Mamba Sport Academy – which was later renamed to the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation – and is subtle yet perfectly executed. As a post-retirement venture for Kobe, he spent a lot of time teaching and encouraging children using the game of basketball and his love for the sport.
The colourway features a snakeskin pattern that is imbedded into the inner lining and we’ve noticed Gigi Bryants #2 jersey adornes the back end of the medial in a golden hue that will add a tear to the eye of even the toughest sneakerhead should these kicks hit the shelves.
The partnership between the Kobe Bryant estate Nike expired in April, however it is thought that negotiations to form a lifelong contract are ongoing between the two. Until then, we’ll have to wait patiently to find out if and when the Nike Kobe 6 Protro “Mamba Forever” will be given an official release date.
