Nike have spent decades releasing countless classic and iconic silhouettes and colourways onto the market and have defined sneaker history in doing so. Nike have released sneakers in collab with plenty of other brands and have brought out thematic pairs for all manner of holidays! Now a much-awaited colourway for the famous Nike SB Dunk High might finally see the shelves after a long delay in its release. The cannabis themed “Strawberry Cough” sneakers, named after a popular strain of the plant, were planned for release on the 20th of April 2020 for the unofficial weed smoker’s holiday “420” last year, but have been indefinitely postponed since. Now official photos have been released that seem to hint at an upcoming release for this long-delayed pair, possibly for the 420 holiday in 2022, but maybe even sooner!
These sneakers deliver a bright and colourful take on the famous weed strain, having an overall design reminiscent of a strawberry, with a blazing red front section and a leafy green heel. The entire forefront of this colourway, including the laces, toe cap, eyelets, toe cap and mid-section, all display a bright red hue with the overlays incorporating tiny embossed yellow dots to mimic the strawberry seeds. The translucent outsoles act as a window for you to see the remaining design underneath, a truly unique touch.
The rest of the sneaker is fashioned from a roughly textured, mottled green coarse suede to represent the leafy appearance of cannabis. This starts with the large swoosh logo and incorporates the entire heel and collar. The pure white tongue adds a lovely splash of contrast against the red laces and features a Nike SB swoosh and logo in the same red hue. A long soft green heel tab sprouts off the rear like a freshly emerged seedling.
The most unique aspect of this sneaker has to be the Strawberry Cough logo itself, which features a tiny cartoon strawberry coughing with a little green hand over his mouth, complete with the use of an onomatopoetic “cough cough” lettering. The Strawberry Cough logo sits on the outer heel of each sneaker and can also be found inside on the insoles. Stay tuned for updates about the future release of this iconic smoker’s sneaker!
