Virgil Abloh definitely knows how to keep sneakerheads on their toes as he takes iconic Nike silhouettes and moulds them to his own vision. Released in 2020, Abloh put his own unique twist on the Nike Dunk in order to create a hybrid that only the Off-White founder himself could perfect. The Rubber Dunk “UNC” colourway was inspired by one of MJ’s most successful colourways in recent years, and remains popular with sneakerheads almost a year after it was first released. This means there’s still plenty of opportunity to add this futuristic iteration to your collection.
Showcasing an electric combination of blue, white and greys across the upper, the “UNC” colourway is somewhat sci-fi in its design. There is also the addition of white rubber accents that manage to interject a fabulous burst of life into a sneaker that demands attention while at the same time remaining quite subtle. We’ve come to expect the deconstructed look from Alboh’s designs and the uppers are crafted from a mixture of rubbers, synthetic leather and mesh that manages to tie together those futuristic vibes we’ve been getting from this iconic collaboration ever since it first dropped.
The rubber gum sole underfoot contains Nike Air technology, another recognizable characteristic, with a visible air bubble feature on the heel which nods to the iconic silhouettes of Tinker Hatfield. To complete the colourway, Abloh has positioned the iconic Nike Swoosh on the lateral and medial side panels in the aforementioned electric blue hue.
Released over two years ago in October 2020, it comes as no surprise that demand is still high for the Nike x Off-White Rubber Dunk “UNC” collab as sneakerheads leap for the opportunity to cop this futuristic must-have. The resale market is the best place to look for Off-White classics designed by Virgil Abloh himself as there are dozens of colourways just waiting to be snapped up, and there’s no doubt anybody sporting the “UNC” iteration will be the talk of any party.
