The Most Expensive Sneakers Ever Sold: Kanye West’s $1.8 Million Yeezys

Kanye West’s first pair of Yeezy’s, the Grammy worn Nike Air Yeezy 1 prototypes have sold for a price that may be as mind-blowing as some of his Yeezy designs!

Kanye West is known for his unique colourways and designs with his Yeezy’s and it’s safe to say he’s had quite a bit of success with the shoes! But this time he had sold a shoe that may take the spotlight from his precious brand.

The Black leather high tops sold for a whopping $1.8 million, surpassing the previous record holding Nike Air Jordan 1s from 1985 that sold at an auction for $560,000. This pair was designed by West and Mark Smith and were worn by West at the 50th annual Grammy’s. The shoes are a size 12 and features a soft black leather upper and a tonal Nike swoosh, with a forefoot strap across the sneaker and Y medallions to hold in place the laces. West started out his Yeezys journey with Nike however parted ways with them in 2013 and moved over to Adidas, which brought a lot of success to both parties of the partnership as they totalled $1.7 billion in sales last year!

Brahm Wachter, the auction houses leader said this in a statement: “The sale speaks volumes of Kanye’s legacy as one of the most influential clothing and sneaker designers of our time, and of the Yeezy franchise he has built which has become an industry titan”.

The shoes were bought by the sneaker investment platform Rares via a private sale. Rares said they are aiming to split the ownership of the shoe into shares, which its users will be able to purchase and trade so everyone can get a piece of the record-breaking shoes. They aimed to have this happen in June 2021, which they did, you could buy a share in the shoes for as little as $16. How would you feel about that? Paying $16 for a small ownership share in a pair shoes that you sadly don’t get a hold off? Let us know in the comments!
