The New Ben Affleck Movie ‘Air’ and Why Nike Air Jordans Are Important in This Story

Sneakerheads, it’s time to head down to your local cinema because there is a brand-new film called ‘Air’ with a star-studded cast from Matt Damon to Viola Davis. This is one you won’t want to miss!

Reviews came flooding in throughout the last week of March when UK viewers had the chance to see it early before the movie came out on April 5th. One said, “Air is a good time but not a great one” while the critics at Rotten Tomatoes rated it 99% and called Damon’s directing “strong and leapt over expectations”.

Here’s a short synopsis of the film:

“The story follows Sonny Vaccaro, Matt Damon, and Nike pursue basketball rookie Michael Jordan, creating a partnership that will take the world of sports and contemporary culture by storm.”

Although Jordan isn’t in this film himself, there were some archive tapes from THAT iconic shot in 1982. From the moment that Vaccaro see’s the game, he strives to make a collaboration of a lifetime featuring Nike and Michael Jordan.

Viola Davis stars as Deloris Jordan and she is a delight! The Oscar-award-winning actress stars as Michael Jordan’s mother and her role follows the journey of believing in her son and witnessing one of the greatest endorsement collaborations in the world.

Although critics are loving this new movie, some fans who idolise Jordan and the brand aren’t big fans of the film. It is unclear as to why, but our best guess is that it could be down to the fact that it isn’t explicit that it’s about Nike and doesn’t feel authentic?

Did you know?

Nike never agreed to take part in the production so legally they couldn’t use the Nike branding or name, hence the name ‘Air’. Pretty genius if you ask us!

In our opinion, we think Air is a decent film and definitely a good watch if you’re looking to go to the cinema over the Easter Bank Holiday!
